I started working as an ESL teacher in South Korea back in June 2013. I can't believe I'm coming up to my 2 years living in a different country, much more being a teacher in a different country. Almost 2 years in and I'm still having a blast! I enjoy teaching the kids.
In 2 years I've taught in 2 different elementary schools. Both in the Gyeonggi region of South Korea (The donut-shaped area around Seoul). My first year was amazing, as I was surrounded by an amazing staff and really enthusiastic kids. My second year, and second school is amazing in it's own rights, but it definitely has a bit more of a challenge set in front of me.
I've been using a lot of materials through online resources, also through other ESL teacher friends I've made here in Korea and other places in the world, but I've been making my own materials as well. I figured, 2 years in, it's about time I shared a few of these ideas. So that's why the website.
I have another website too, and that is for my travels and other non-teaching related posts. I will be posting all my teaching things here though. If you want to visit the other site you can find it at MidnyteTour.blogspot.com (Confession: I haven't really been keeping up there, but I'll do my best to do so here)
I hope that this little blog of mine would be able to help other teachers teaching abroad in South Korea, or even other parts of the world. I will do my best to credit the people whom I've gathered material from to make my classes as well.
From my profile:
Coming to teach in Korea, I had a vision of me being like Onizuka from the anime GTO, except of course without a few of his.. uhm... particular interests. I wanted to be a difference in a class full of children's lives. Not being their homeroom teacher of course I couldn't do so much, but if I can just inspire a few lives and become the spark that sets off their desire to learn or become something in life, then I have done my job.
I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.
